Is Buckwheat Paleo?

Buckwheat was not eaten in primal days, but it is gluten-free and is considered to be lower in carbohydrates when compared to actual grains. Buckwheat's glycemic index is 54, which is high for Paleo standards. I eat it very rarely, like in pancakes when I am craving more starchy foods. I figure it's better than using pancake mix from the grocery store, but I wouldn't label buckwheat as a Paleo food.
